The Nature and Landscapes Getaway in the Gironès invites you to explore a transitional environment where the river plain meets unique massifs and viewpoints, riverside forests, meadows, and trails beneath the shade of centuries-old cork oaks. An opportunity to lose yourself in areas of great biodiversity, from the stillness of market gardens to the discovery of dormant volcanoes.
The route begins at the hermitage of Sant Cristòfol del Bosc, in Llambilles, tucked away in a corner where Mediterranean woodland appears amid lush and dry vegetation of striking contrasts and pleasant paths.
As you venture into the Les Gavarres massif, the landscape becomes a mosaic of cork oak groves and holm oak forests that bear witness to the ancestral relationship between people and the woodland. A protected area dotted with megalithic remains and wildlife as varied as it is elusive.
The route continues to the Sanctuary of Els Àngels, one of the highest points of the massif and a privileged balcony from which you can enjoy panoramic views stretching from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean, offering one of the finest vistas in the Gironès.
Descending towards the plain, the Ban and the banks of the River Ter in Bordils reveal the richness of our river ecosystems; here, the Greenways connect the territory, following the course of the water surrounded by extensive poplar plantations, mills, and monumental trees.
This water connection then leads us to the Llémena Valley, the green lung of the county, watched over by small volcanoes and steep rocky slopes covered in beech and holm oak forests, nestled among beautiful fields of wheat and poppies, just a short distance from the urban area.
On the way back towards the heart of the region, the Deveses de Salt offer a paradise for birdwatching—species such as the kingfisher, little egret, or grey heron—and riverside animals such as otters, turtles, dragonflies, and more than 1,000 different species hidden among alders, willows, and plane trees that can reach up to 60 metres in height.
The getaway concludes at the La Crosa volcano, between Bescanó and Sant Dalmai; a crater of astonishing dimensions—the widest in the Iberian Peninsula—evoking the richness of the region’s geological past.
An ideal itinerary to discover the essence of the Gironès in two or three days. An invitation to enjoy outdoor exercise and to be captivated by a landscape that changes colours and nuances with every season of the year.

ROUTES
The Sant Cristòfol del Bosc route is a perfect proposal for venturing into a peaceful and shaded landscape. This itinerary in the municipality of Llambilles allows you to visit the hermitage of Sant Cristòfol del Bosc, already mentioned in the year 882. The route is highly representative of the different types of forests found in Les Gavarres: holm oak forests, cork oak groves, pinewoods, chestnut groves, and riverside forests.
In addition, the Gironès offers many other signposted routes—for walking, cycling, or enjoying with the family—that allow you to discover hidden corners, ancient pathways, and natural spaces of great scenic value.
WHERE TO EAT?
After a day outdoors, the gastronomy of the Gironès becomes the ideal complement to the experience. The local cuisine focuses on locally sourced produce and traditional flavours: comforting dishes, traditional recipes, and contemporary proposals that reflect the agricultural and forest richness of the county. Eating well is also part of the journey.
WHAT TO DO?
The nature of the Gironès can be experienced in many ways.
Kayaking on the River Ter allows you to discover the landscape from the water, with calm stretches ideal for a relaxing and accessible activity.
For thrill-seekers, Aventura Girona offers outdoor activities that combine sport, nature, and fun.
The EcoVies are an excellent option for exploring the county on foot or by bicycle, following former railway routes that connect villages and landscapes with gentle slopes and privileged surroundings.
WHERE TO STAY?
To enjoy the getaway at a relaxed pace, the Gironès offers accommodation integrated into the landscape. Rural houses such as Nus de Pedra in Llorà (Llémena Valley), Can Bonet in Sant Martí Vell (Les Gavarres), or Cal Rei Vinyes in Celrà provide welcoming stays in peaceful natural settings.
The county also offers motorhome areas, a practical option for those who wish to travel freely and wake up surrounded by nature.
